Like you, I am a small business owner and I know first hand the joys and frustrations of being the boss. I too need a 36 hour day as I struggle to balance my business responsibilities with my personal life. I have to constantly "pound the pavement" to find new clients while keeping my existing clients happy. Along with this first hand experience, I have the technical skills gained from earning an MBA from Babson College, and the unique insight gained from working with a broad range of companies including retail stores, real estate firms, restaurants and construction companies.
I currently live in Yarmouth Port with my wife and my four children, and like many of you, I work from my home office. I have lived on the Cape since I was seven years old (which means I am still a "wash ashore" never to be a true Capie - one of my life's laments.) Remember how it used to be that after Labor Day, the Cape was left to us, the year round residents. It was great - we could go to our favorite restaurant or movie without waiting in line. There were no traffic jams. The Cape was ours until Memorial Day. Main Street in Hyannis used to be the happening place with the Center theater, a miniature golf course, Friendlys, and the Melody Tent.
How the Cape has changed! We have become a more year-round economy which has been a boon to many of us small business owners. We now have three vibrant economic hubs of Orleans/Chatham, Hyannis, and Falmouth. We can now make a living year round on the Cape, one of the most beautiful places to live in the country. So we will tolerate the traffic jams, the long line at our favorite restaurant, and the full parking lot at the local beach, while we work together to meet the needs of a growing community.
